School Board Member PAM FOLEY Has a long proven track record of community service
A product of public schools, Pam Foley (Feller) graduated from high school in 1977, then attended the University of San Francisco. Pam met and married Mike Foley in 1983. In 1987 they scraped up enough money to purchase their first home in the Cambrian Park Area of San Jose on Reedhurst Ave. After a brief move to the Santa Cruz Mountains, they moved into their current home in District 9 where they have lived for 28 years. They have a daughter, Katelin, who graduated from DePaul University, in Chicago, June of this year.
Elected to the San Jose Unified School Board in 2004, Pam continues to serve on the School Board today. She oversees the education of 31,000 students with a budget of $400,000,000. In December 2017, she completed her third term as the SJUSD Board President. Pam started out as a volunteer in her daughter’s classroom at Hacienda Elementary Science Magnet and continued to participate in parent leadership roles throughout her daughter’s middle and high school years.
Together, Pam and Mike own and operate a small family mortgage business, Foley Mortgage, founded by Mike’s father Gene in 1957. Pam has worked there for 30 years and in 1993, Pam & Mike bought the business. Last year the company celebrated 60 years in business.
One of Pam’s early leadership roles was chairman of WATCH (Women and Their Children’s Housing), a transitional housing program for victims of domestic violence and their children, working to break the cycle of violence.
For 15 years Pam has volunteered with the Rotary Club of San Jose as a mentor to 96 high school juniors through the Enterprise Leadership Conference. Rotary takes the juniors to a retreat for three days and teaches them how to start and run a business.
Pam’s other volunteer work has included: The YMCA, where she is a board member; Willow Glen Education Foundation; Project Cornerstone; St. Francis Episcopal Church; Girl Scouts; San Jose Children’s Musical Theater; Osprey Aquatics; Habitat for Humanity.
Pam was appointed to separate task forces by both former Mayor Chuck Reed and current Mayor Sam Liccardo. Pam has received recognition for her community service. In 2017, Pam received the Boy Scouts’ “Character Award.” In 2010 San Jose Vice Mayor Judy Chirco presented Pam with the City’s District 9 Star Commendation.
“Pam Foley is the best choice for San Jose City Council District 9. She is a local business person with an admirable business record. She is an independent, 30 year community volunteer who strongly supports our police and firefighters and has a proven record of good judgment.”
