WE WON!

Dear Supporters:

The election is over and as of today, I lead my opponent 50.82% to 49.18% with 99% of the votes being counted according to the Santa Clara County Registrar's office.

This means - We Won!

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you that supported me, encouraged me, walked precincts for me, donated to my campaign, made phone calls on my behalf, endorsed me, voted for me, and encouraged others to vote for me.

 Pam, Katelin (daughter), Mike (husband)

The results were very close, as we anticipated, which means that every one of your efforts helped make a difference.

I am particularly grateful to my husband, Mike, and daughter, Katelin, for supporting me through my quest. Running for office is a family matter. Thank you for propping me up when I needed it, being my cheerleaders and encouraging me to pursue my dream.

Thankfully, the hard work of the election is over. With the important work at City Hall only beginning, I am energized and excited to take on the challenges that face the City of San Jose.

As I meet with City Staff and Councilmember Don Rocha and his team, I am encouraged by their professionalism and support.

Please feel free to share your thoughts about issues facing the residents of San Jose. Success means that we are working together to accomplish the same goals of improving the quality of life for everyone in San Jose.

Happy Holidays and onto 2019! ~ Pam

“You can’t say you care about the People if you are unwilling to speak about “Politics” and vote! No one should be shamed for speaking their peace regardless of which side of the isle they are on. The moment we stop being engaged we lose our freedoms. It’s the season when these discussions and action are more important than ever. Yesterday I walked for my friend Pam Foley who is running for San Jose’ City Council District 9 because I believe our City would benefit from her expertise, experience, leadership and strong commitment to the People of San Jose’. If someone comes to your front door to share about a candidate please answer and ask your questions about the individual so you can make an informed decision when YOU vote! It’s time to elect those with experience because our issues require it.” ~ Hilda Ramirez

Those attack ads

Last night I participated in the last forum for my race for city council. Sharing here the public comments that I made about the attack ads sent out against my opponent by an independent committee.

I did not like them when they were used against me in the primary and I don’t like them used against my opponent.

I am upset, angry, frustrated and wish they would stop. I do not condone them nor was I able to give any input into their use.

These are Independent expenditures, which means by law a candidate must have absolutely no contact with those sending them.

Anyone can create an Independent Expenditure, but, as a candidate, I cannot have interaction with the group creating and mailing them.

Make no mistake, I do not condone these type of ads and I wish they would stop.

Sincerely,
Pam Foley

San Jose Teachers, Nurses, and Counselors Support Pam Foley for City Council

After interviewing both candidates the San Jose Teachers Association expressed their clear choice with this endorsement and press release.

“Proven leader can guide San Jose to be both the Capital of Silicon Valley and a place workers can call home”

SJTA_Aug_29.jpg

SAN JOSE — Elected representatives of the teachers, nurses, and counselors in San José Unified School District have voted unanimously to endorse Pam Foley for San José City Council District 9. San José Teachers Association President Patrick Bernhardt released the following statement:

“In her 14 years on the SJUSD school board, Pam Foley has been a vigorous advocate for students, families, and teachers in our city. Her steadfast leadership has seen the district though a period of exceptional change: three superintendent transitions, the worst recession in modern times, and fundamental changes to how California schools are funded, what standards they teach, and how schools are evaluated. During Pam’s stewardship, SJUSD became nationally acclaimed as one of the highest achieving, best managed urban school districts in the nation.

“Under Pam’s leadership, the district has:

  • § Created a revolutionary evaluation system that ensures high standards for teachers and their principals

  • § Reformed its management of health care benefits to improve outcomes and lower costs

  • § Reinvented the way it hires and trains employees to ensure high quality staff in all positions

  • § Adopted a job-coaching program to help employees continuously improve their work

  • § Supported women and families by becoming the first California district to offer paid maternity leave

  • § Weathered the recession through shared sacrifice, avoiding both layoffs and cuts to classroom programs

“Today the greatest anxieties San José teachers face are the cost of living and access to affordable housing. Every year teachers, like police officers, fire fighters, and other civil servants, are leaving Silicon Valley because they cannot afford to live here. Pam has spent her entire professional career helping people find homes. She is the right leader to help guide San José’s ongoing struggle to be both the Capital of Silicon Valley and a community that all workers can afford to call home.

“The teachers, nurses, and counselors of the San José Teachers Association are proud to stand with Pam Foley in her campaign for city council.”

San José Teachers Association, the largest teachers union in Santa Clara County, represents the 1,700 teachers, nurses, and counselors of the San José Unified School District.

Round 2, November Run-Off

Yes, I narrowly won the primary by 221 votes in my race for San Jose City Council.

But November is the run-off election and I've got my work cut out for me.

I personally knocked on thousands of doors for the primary, meeting many residents of District 9, and I do not intend on letting up.

The fundraising starts over again. If you maxed out with your $600 contribution in the primary, the slate is now wiped clean. You can once again contribute up to $600.

My first fundraising reporting period expires tomorrow, June 30th, at 11:59pm.

Please help me have a good showing and contribute now!

I’ll be on the November ballot as a candidate for City Council District 9!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to walk with me, host events, post yard signs and spread the word. I could not have done this without you.

While we worked hard to get to this point, our job is not done. This next phase of my campaign will require even more time, effort and determination. Stay tuned to learn how you can help.

Again, thank you all for your support and generosity. I am beyond grateful

What do school superintendents think of Pam Foley?

As superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District (former superintendent of San Jose  Unified), Dr. Vincent Matthews serves as the top executive of the eighth largest school district in California and the third largest employer in San Francisco.

I loved working with Pam because I always knew that her true focus was ensuring that San Jose youth received a high quality education.
